Welcome to Dreamfit!
Have you got a disability or do you know someone that does? Are there activities you thought would never be possible? In 2003, a T6 paraplegic told me if he had one wish, it would be to ride a motorcycle again. I took on a personal challenge to make this dream come true. Since then I have successfully designed and built a motorcycle that can be ridden without needing to use your legs. This dream is now a reality. Dreamfit's aim is to provide innovative recreation and leisure equipment for people with disabilities, enabling them to participate in activities they never dreamt possible. Do you have a dream? A few months ago, I was invited to present a paper at the inaugural Australian Biomedical Engineering Conference that is being hosted in Adelaide, South Australia, at the end of October 2005. The conference is also part of the annual 'Engineering & the Physical Sciences in Medicine Conference. I am quite excited as it is going to be the first time I've had a paper published. The paper I have prepared is titled Motorcycling Freedom: A Paraplegics Dream. You can view the paper here if you're interested. I welcome any feedback. Being a student, the paper is in the running to win the Young Biomedical Engineer of the Year Award. This will be a fantastic recognition after spending over two years working on this project. Fingers crossed!! Thanks goes out to the University of Western Australia who has contributed $1,200 towards the costs involved in attending the conference, so that it can be on display for all to see. Until next time, take care, Darren Lomman
