RegistrationFor the modified vehicle to be legal, it needs to be approved by the local licensing authority. The regulations and procedures will be different in every state. In Western Australia, the relevant licensing authority is the Department for Planning and Infrastructure. Normally, they would not register such a heavily modified vehicle but since the modifications are essential for a person with a disability, DPI will make exceptions to the rules and register the motorcycle and all the modifications as long as certain criteria are met. These include: - The modifications have to have been done for a rider with a disability. The rider needs to qualify for a "disabled drivers licence" which needs to be approved by a doctor. This is to prevent able bodied riders heavily modifying their machines.
- The rider must be able to pass a regular driving licence test whilst riding the motorcycle. This is to ensure the rider has control of the motorcycle 100% of the time.
