Since Dreamfit’s humble backyard beginnings in 2003, Dreamfit has seen significant growth. The days of working out of a house garage with two or three projects have been replaced with the Dreamplex, a 1,500 square meter workshop. Dreamfit now has 25 projects on the go, involving hundreds of students.
The last big project completed, Josiahs Bicycle Engineering Challenge, involved over 200 engineering students from the University of WA.
The Dreamfit Foundation relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers donating their time and passion to the projects they undertake. But as the organization grows, the need for dedicated regular staff to oversee the organisation’s running, to coordinate volunteers and manage the many projects Dreamfit is seeking to undertake.
In conjunction with the growing number of projects Dreamfit is taking on, Dreamfit has the pleasure of announcing that The McCusker Charitable Foundation will be contributing funds towards appointing an Operations Manager!
“An increase in capacity will enable us to grow our engineering program, undertake more projects, engage more students and ultimately provide increased support and benefit to the local WA people living with disabilities.”
Says Darren Lomman, CEO of Dreamfit Foundation.
“This is a major benefit to both the organisation and to the wider community.”
One of WA’s most generous philanthropic bodies, The McCusker Charitable Foundation was established for charitable purposes aimed at improving health and education, with particular emphasis on Western Australia.
Over the past years the McCusker Charitable Foundation has donated more than $20M to a wide variety of charitable projects and not for profit bodies including The Western Australian Institute for Medical Research, Silver Chain Services, Redkite, Institute for Immunology and Infectious Diseases and now Dreamfit Foundation. They also provide funding to the The McCusker Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
“Dreamfit is an inspirational organisation because it encourages collaboration between industry, education, government and community partners to help solve some of the problems facing people with disabilities. Whilst a person with a disability will benefit directly from the program, it is particularly exciting to see university students honing their engineering skills and putting themselves into the position of someone with limitations. The McCusker family is delighted to provide funding for an Operations Manager that will assist Dreamfit to achieve its impressive goals.” Tonya and Malcolm McCusker.
