DREAM RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED!

The three lucky dream recipients for the Dreamfit Foundation’s 2010 “Dreamcatcher” Program have now been selected.

When nominations opened for not-for-profit disability organisations to submit a representative to win one of three custom engineering solutions, Dreamfit was overwhelmed by the response.

“It was a hard decision to make but the three very deserving and excited dream recipients are thrilledabout having their dreams fulfilled. None of this would be possible withoutcustom engineering solutions.” said Darren Lomman CEO Dreamfit Foundation.

The three recipients, Sladjana Mijailovic, Imran Ariff and Karen Anderson, represent a wide range of leisure and recreation interests across the West Australian disability sector.

Sladjana is a delightful 12 year old girl whose dream is to be able to paint and draw by herself, something her meningitis induced quadriplegia doesn’t allow.

Imran is a highly independent young man with cerebral palsy, who dreams of being able to complete a gym workout on his own. Imran’s workout at his local gym, strengthens hismind, body and soul and is an important part of integration into the community.

Karen is an avid waterskier, mother and representative of the WA Disabled Water Ski Association.Living with cerebral palsy she is passionate about sharing her amazing experiences and sense of freedom on the water, with other people living with disabilities.

Over 200 UWA engineering students have now been provided a design and function brief for each of the three challenges, from ECU’s, school of Occupational Therapy. The brief to design solution concepts is now part of their academic assessment, with the choice to build their designs as part of the competition in the latter half of 2010.

Of the designs submitted, three teams will be selected for each dream project. Each team is then matched with an industry sponsor and mentor to build their dream solution, with thefinal winning design selected by the dream recipient at the end of the year. The 12 winning dream designs will be announced in June, at the end ofthe University semester one, by UWA’s Vice Chancellor Professor Alan Robson .
