Peter Fitzpatrick is widely respected and recognised for the outstanding contributions made during his professional life at the helm of two peak bodies as the Chief Executive Officer for the legal profession and the motor industry.  Prior to this Peter had a distinguished 20 year military career, including service with the elite Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) as an Australian Army Officer.

Katrina Porter was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita but has never let the condition get in the way of living life to the full.  In 2006 she claimed bronze in the 100m breaststroke at the IPC World Championships, then in Beijing in 2008 she broke the 100m backstroke world record and declared her place in History with a Gold medal.

    The Event

Dreamcatcher ChallengeDisability organisations nominated “Dreams” of potential candidates to participate in a competition to receive a custom engineered solution to help fulfill their Dream. Three projects were selected for UWA’s 2nd year engineering students to work with ECU’s Occupational Therapy and Public Relations and Communications teams to design and develop concepts to enhance the lives of the lucky recipients.

Dreamcatcher Gym Project • Dreamcatcher Sit Ski Project • Dreamcatcher Art Easel Project

Each project has three student groups who will each build their concepts with the assistance and mentoring of industry partners. These items will be presented to the three Dream recipients at the end of the breakfast, where each recipient will select their favourite design from the three options just in time for christmas.

  5. Westcare International Day of Disability Breakfast: Josiah's Bike Challenge

    3/12/2009 6:00:00 AM

    Josiah
Come to the Westcare International Day of Disability Breakfast on 3 December 2009 featuring a number of inspirational guest speakers and Dreamfit Foundations highlight project for 2009 - Josiah’s Bicycle Engineering Challenge.

During the year, 212 UWA Engineering Students were involved in designing a custom bicycle for Josiah. Josiah is an inspirational 9-year-old Perth boy born with no arms. As a result of the challenge, 64 innovative designs were submitted by the teams of students. Six of these teams were then selected as finalists and offered the chance to build their bicycle with the support of local engineering and resource companies including Cliffs Natural Resources, Laing O'Rourke and Westnet Infrastructure Group.

During the breakfast, Josiah will have the incredibly difficult challenge of selecting his favourite bicycle out of the six that he will get to keep and take home just in time for Christmas. The team who built the bicycle chosen by Josiah will be crowned the ultimate winner of the Josiah Bicycle Engineering Challenge.

The remaining five bicycles that are not chosen by Josiah will be donated to Ride-Aid so they can be taken to Cambodia and donated to children who have lost arms through landmine explosions or birth conditions.

If you are interested in coming along on the day and being involved in what will no doubt be one of the most inspirational events of the year, you must book your ticket online at: www.redhorizonevents.com.au.
