On July 6th 2011 the Dreamplex was abuzz with the sound of saws and drills as the Bunnings crew, OJH Plumbing and Euan Hannah Electrical began to construct a new fully functional kitchen for Dreamfit Foundation.
The Bunnings team arrived with an army of 20 volunteers and spent the day assembling the new kitchen facility as well as landscaping, sanding and buffering and providing help with odd jobs around the Dreamplex. The kitchen cabinetry, materials, plants, equipment and tools were all kindly donated by the Bunnings stores at Wembley, Claremont, South Perth, Cannington, Maddington, Midland and Kalgoorlie. To complete the kitchen, new appliances and accessories were generously sponsored through an ANZ grant.
Bunnings Project Coordinator Belinda Bachelor was excited about the project and what it meant for Dreamfit and the local community, “Bunnings are very big on sustainability and working in the community alongside the local people who come to our stores. Our work is aimed at getting out there and helping people achieve things.” In undertaking this project Bunnings has once again shown its commitment to supporting those who help others.
Located adjacent to the project bays, the new kitchen facilities will provide a comfortable environment for the Dreamfit students and volunteers to continue their work at Dreamplex. Dreamfit CEO Darren Lomman thanks the volunteers for their time and contributions, and says these developments will “continue to encourage students and volunteers to get involved and makes the Dreamplex an exciting place to be”.
