On the 1st of September 2010, Dreamfit Foundation opened the doors of the much awaited ‘Dreamplex’, a place where people with disabilities can come and have their dreams fulfilled by the Dreamfit staff and volunteers.
Thanks to previous support from the University of Western Australia, along with several generous community sponsors, the Dreamfit Foundation has turned a 1500 square meter “renovators delight” into the ‘Dreamplex’.
To celebrate this milestone achievement, Dreamfit hosted a special opening event Sundowner to show gratitude and to share the occasion with those involved.
Alan Robson; Vice Chancellor of UWA, along with Darren Lomman; CEO Dreamfit Foundation, unvielled the‘official’ plaque to mark the special occasion. There was also video messages from two key supporters Lyn Beazley, WA Chief Scientist and Richard Goyder, Managing Director Wesfarmers.
It was a highly successful and emotional night!
“The Dreamplex is not just a dream anymore. I can’t wait to hear the sounds of students working on and building projects, it’s such an awesome atmosphere,” says Darren animatedly.
Dreamfit had previously been working out of a 150sq meter workshop with 10-15 volunteers. Requests for Dreamfit by the community were rapidly increasing and it was necessary to move to a bigger work space.
The ‘Dreamplex’ can support over 150 volunteers, allowing Dreamfit to help more people living with disabilities.
The Dreamplex is open, but Dreamfit still needs much more support in order to reach its potential. There are workstations still to be sponsored, as well as workshop machinery items that are needed. By becoming a Dreamplex sponsor, your organisation is demonstrating that you are willing to give something back to the community.
Your support is giving people with disability the opportunity to live their dreams and achieve enhanced access and inclusion in society. Your contribution is also assisting with the professional development of our volunteer students.
There are a number of ways your organisation can be involved in this project or other projects. Contact Darren Lomman, Dreamfit CEO at darren@dreamfit.com.au
