The Trimaran project was inspired by the dreams of Brett Gillies. Brett has Muscular Dystrophy and his dream is to sail into the sunset on the Swan River in Perth.
The first stage of this project involved removing the dome cabin and installing an accessible fibreglass deck.
Dreamfit Foundations's student engineers then designed a wheelchair-accessible ramp for the trimaran.
The next stage involved installation of safety rails and steering modifications to enable the boat to be skippered by Brett himself and other people with disabilities.
The final touches were completed late in 2011 and the Dreamfit Trimaran now sits ready for action at its original mooring in Mt Pleasant.
