2010 Dreamcatcher Art Easel Project

Sladjana Mijailovic is a 12 year old girl living with Quadriplegia. But wait till you see her paint...

Dream summary: To be able to paint and draw independently. . Sladjana would love to be able to drive her wheelchair up to an art easel, choose her own colors, squeeze them onto a palate, select a paint brush (or two if she would like), and start and finish painting without having to ask for assistance. She would also like to hold exhibitions to display her artwork and share her talent with the community.

Dream details: Having been diagnosed with transverse myelitis with complete spinal lesion, Sladjana has quadriplegia and ventilator dependence. She is only ableto control her head and facial movements. She is able to vocalise her needs and is mobile due to a wheelchair she is able to steer with her chin.Sladjana has an amazing ability to draw and paint by using brushes and pencils in her mouth. Her talent has led her to win art competitions and save some money to continue to pursue her art. Sladjana may be able to use her talent as a source of income. Appropriate equipment will greatly assist her to maximise her potential in this area.

Design Challenge: To design a motorised Art easel that will allow Sladjana to fulfil her love and passion for painting and drawing independently and whenever she wishes. The appropriate design would allow Sladjana the freedom and independence that any little girl craves and needs.
